Sunny Saturday, February 28, 2015

Wow, the last day of February!  Can Spring be far behind?  At least the sun was shining today.  Still cold though.

I must have been SAD yesterday, sorry for the blooper, it was Mr. Spock, not Dr. Spock.  Didn't even realize I'd written that until tonight when I was rereading the very short post.

Have any of you been following the "color of the dress controversy"?  I am one of the "wrong" ones who was sure it was white and gold.  I still don't see the blue and black.  Weird.

Happy to see the the Krauses made it back safely from AZ and I'm sure are glad to be back in better climes.  haha

I did a little decluttering, then read another of the Wanda Bruchstetter books.  I started to read the book club book for this month, but had to have a break from that.  We're reading the "Hundred Foot Journey", which is written from the perspective of an Indian (from India), and is kind of intense.  It's written in 4 sections, so I decided to do a section at a time, with something else in between.
So - - the Amish book.  :)

I also have the Walk Series by Richard Paul Evans home, the last one "Walking on Water".  I listened to the first books on audio at work before I retired.  I do recommend them, there are 5 of them, easy reads.

We had the movie "Nebraska" home from the library, so decided to watch that tonight.  It was interesting.  Don't know what else to call it.  It was kind of humorous, kind of sad, just different.  It was in black and white, I think the old couple were both up for Oscars last year.  We both stayed awake for all of it, so it couldn't have been too bad!!

My cold is much better, but Orrin's is at the worst stage.  Hopefully, he'll be better tomorrow, as it will be a full day.  Church and bible study in the morning, and then in the afternoon we are going to Gibbon.  Alan's church has a spaghetti supper, and then it's Grandparent's day at the boys' school on Monday.   We're looking forward to it.  I'll have some pictures posted, but not sure if I'll be online tomorrow.

Apparently (according to Facebook), Jeremy was fishing near Arlington, SD with a friend, and he, or his friend, not real clear on that, caught a pretty nice northern.  Yea them.  :)

Well, not much else to add for tonight.  I hope your day was a bit more active than ours was.  I had good intentions, but didn't quite accomplish everything.

Good night from Canby area,  Orrin, Linda and Teddy

Friday, February 27, 2015

Feeling the effects of SAD today, for some reason.  I did read a book, not much else.  It looked like a nice sunny day, but it's cold!!
No special plans for the weekend, we both have colds.
Dr. Spock passed away today.
I think I should get offline and do something positive.

Hugs,  Orrin, Linda and Teddy

Thursday (and a mention of Wednesday) February 26, 2015

It wasn't until this morning that I realized I hadn't posted last night.  Since yesterday was not very memorable, I just skipped it.  :(  My throat was very sore, and there were several naps involved.  I think it helped, because I felt much better today.

I decided I'd better start using some of my "dead" bananas, so made some banana bread.  Mara called them that one time, at least I think it was her.  Someone correct me if my memory is faulty.  I used coconut oil for part of the shortening (much healthier) and half Truvia, half sugar also.  They turned out pretty good so I think I'll stick with that recipe.  So I got 3 loaves in the freezer, and we're eating on the other one.

I did get some laundry done, I'd been neglecting that for a while, but when one runs out of underwear, it's time to "get 'er done"!

I also read a book.  I haven't done that for a while, just read a whole book in a day!  It did keep my interest, so had to keep going.  It was by Susan Elisabeth Phillips, and she's always entertaining.  Kathy, I also have that book at home by Wanda Brunstetter.  I haven't started it yet, that may be next.

I'm afraid I've shared my cold with Orrin, well, we do live in the same house, and interact occasionally.  :)  He's been kept quite busy in the shop this winter.  There's an IH 986 sitting by the shop, that was brought over when we were gone, and he still doesn't know who it belongs to!!  Orrin thinks he knows who it might belong to, but not sure.

I took a break from decluttering today, unless you call getting the dishes done, and kitchen cleared up.  Will have to do more tomorrow.

Well, it's a little earlier tonight, but think I will call it good.  Have a great evening,  Orrin, Linda and Teddy.

Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Wow, what a wonderful day!  It was up to 30 above!  I know it's very temporary, but I'll take it!  I didn't even need my earmuffs.  :)

Made a couple of birthday cards this morning to get in the mail today.  It's Manny's birthday today!  So I know he won't get it in time, but I sent it to Gibbon, so he wouldn't get it until the weekend anyway.  And Jordan has a birthday tomorrow!  Hoping they both have great days.

I have some ideas for cards to try out, will share as I go along.  Maybe I'll be able to start on that tomorrow.

I'm still working on decluttering in the bedroom, to make room for the bed.  The delivery date is March 12th, so I have a little time yet.  I can take the time I need to do it right.  Of course, mister "do it right now" was pushing for certain things, but I explained that I wasn't to be rushed.  We'll see how long that lasts, LOL

Drove to Monte today for my beautification process.  They did the best they could with what they have to work with.  :)  It always feel so good, and I feel so refreshed.  I stopped at the libraries (Dawson and Montevideo) so stocked up on books and magazines.  There is cold weather ahead again, after all!

I'm starting to miss my clubs, I know the CRS one will probably start again in March, but don't know what's holding up the craft club.  I hope I wasn't supposed to have it and forgot.  Hmmm, maybe I should call someone.  I know a lot of people are doing trips to the south yet.

Well, I should settle in for the night, Orrin is actually still awake.  There's a movie that he's enjoying on.  Cori Lou, get well for your visit to see mom.

Good night, Orrin, Linda and Teddy

Very late Monday, February 23, 2005

Wow, where is February going?  Sorry this is so late, I fell asleep on the couch and just woke up.  I slept a lot today, this nasty cold has taken hold and left me with a sore throat.  It's a bit better tonight.  So today has been spent on small naps, very frustrating.

I experienced a Facebook scam this morning.  I received a friend request from my niece, Chris (so I thought) and accepted it.  Immediately she was messaging me, talking about winning $200,000 and I could too.  That made me very suspicious, so I reported it as spam and unfriended again.  Obviously, it was not Chris. Someone had stolen her picture and friend list. So, if you get a request from me and I'm already your friend, please ignore it.  They may have stolen my friend list, too.  Just a head's up.

It's really blowing out there, and very cold.  Hope we don't get snow to blow around!

Wendy e-mailed tonight to tell us that Luke has an assignment to Japan!!  The whole family will go, sometime before August.  They are coming up to Rapid City sometime in June/July, so hoping to get a chance to see them.  Their deployment will be 2-4 yrs.  So exciting for them!

Bed is beckoning, think I will respond.  Have a good evening,

Orrin, Linda and Teddy

Sunday February 22, 2015

Still cold, double digits below zero again.  We did get a little sunshine, though.

We just finished watching Zach play basketball, streaming from the  mlhs.org website.  It was grade school tournaments.  They lost, but played a good game.  Zach played most of the game.  So glad Dan let us know, so we could watch.  Helps when we're so far away.

We made early service today, bible study and then lunch at the Wheel Inn.  Just had a little shopping to do, so we were home early.  Not much else going on.  Think it will be an early evening.

Stay warm where you are.  And if it's warm where you are, enjoy it!

Hugs,  Orrin Linda and Teddy.

Saturday, February 21, 2015

Good evening!  The weekend is half gone already, where do the hours go?  I didn't even stick my head out, other than to let Teddy out occasionally.  I must admit to a kind of lazy day.  I did organize my purse and shoe shelves, another step closer to making room for that bed.  :)

Orrin and I started watching the series "Bosch" on Amazon prime, and got caught up in it.  There were 10 episodes, and thought we might do half, but once we got started, we couldn't seem to stop!  It was good, a police procedural, based on the books by Michael Connelly.  I've read them, and found it a good rendering.  So that took up most of the afternoon into the evening.

I made those chicken pot pies for supper, and they turned out pretty good.  I would probably add a few things, maybe a little chicken broth, just for moisture, bake it a lower temp.  But I'd definitely do it again, and it's so easy!!

Mini Chicken Pot Pies
Ingredients:
2 cups frozen mixed vegetables, thawed
2 boneless chicken breast, cooked, diced and seasoned to taste
1 can (10 3/4 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup  (maybe add a little chicken broth, and some seasonings)
1 can (16.3 oz) Pillsbury Grands! Flaky Layers refrigerated biscuits

Directions:
1) pre Heat your oven to 375°F.  (I would change that to 350)
2) Mix well in a bowl; combine vegetables, chicken and soup.
3) Flatten each biscuit into 5 1/2-inch round circle.
4) Place 1 round in each of 8 greased regular-size muffin cups. Press in bottom and up the side to form the pie cup.
5) Spoon in a generous amount of chicken mixture into each cup.
6) Pull edges of dough over filling toward center; pleat and pinch dough gently to hold in place.
Bake at 375°F for about 20 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.
9) Cool 1 minute; remove from pan.

I made them in a large muffin tin, so had to roll those biscuits out a little more.

Oh, and our Isaiah won a medal at an archery shoot today!

Have a great night, see you on the flip side.

Friday, February 20, 2015

Well, I don't know what I did, but just lost the post I'd started.  Here we go again.

Nothing real exciting today, just more decluttering in the bedroom, it's starting to show some progress.  :)  It's still cold, what else is new?  Spring is not too far away, though.  Made roast chicken for supper, and cut up the rest to make chicken pot pies tomorrow.  I saw what looks like an easy recipe for that, I'll report back on that.

Wendy shared this from St. Paul's.   On Sunday morning, February 15, Rev. Dobberstein had a baseball-sized tumor removed from his brain. It was cancerous, Glioma. Ways to proceed are being considered.  They
truly appreciate your concerns and prayers.  So sad.

Just a couple of pictures from my visit to Jane yesterday.

Have a great evening!  Orrin, Linda and Teddy.

Thursday February 19, 2015

A few things to add to the end of the day.  The refrigerator man made it around noon, and checked things out.  He'll order parts and be back to make the fridge as good as new!!  :)

So that meant that I could still travel to Graceville, so I called Jane to make sure it was okay and headed out in the frigid temperature.  I took the Marietta road this time, and just northwest of our place I hit something with the car.  It looked like a small German Shepherd, but it could have been a coyote, too.  It happened kind of fast.  You know how a dog (or coyote) run out from the ditch.  Anyway, I checked the car, and it was okay.  Whatever it was, it rolled and ran off in the ditch again, so not sure how it was.  There wasn't a farmplace anywhere near, which made me think it wasn't a dog.  If it was a dog, I feel bad, if it was a coyote, well. . . .

The birthday group (minus a few gals that were in warmer climes) were together, so got to see all of them again.  It was Bette's birthday party today.  Jane is looking really well, so good to see.  We all had a nice visit, and afterward I went back with Jane to her room and visited a little longer.  Decided to leave in daylight, though it was dark by the time I got home.

Paul Krause had his surgery today, Kathy messaged that it went well, but no details yet.  Praying the results were as positive as possible.  I just read her blog, and things went as well as hoped.  Praise God!!

Just a note, if you notice, under my name on the right side, there is a box labeled follow.  If you click on that, you will become a follower.  I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I think it will notify you of new entries.  Give it a shot, and let me know what happens.  :)

Have a great night,

Orrin, Linda and Teddy

Ash Wednesday and Thursday morning February 18, 2015

Good morning!  After we got home last night I was just too tired to get on here to type this up.  So hopefully I'll do better when I'm bright eyed and chipper!

It was a busy day.  I drove over to St. Martin's for women's bible study at 8:30.  We're a small group, but we have some good discussions.  Jody Hahnke leads it, and there is a nice, mixed (ages) bunch of ladies.  We're working from the book "Having a Mary Spirit".  I do recommend it, it sure gives me a lot of food for thought.  I love the positive feelings from these ladies.

I stopped at HyVee, because, you know, I was in town!  And it was senior citizen day, lol.  I think I did more visiting than shopping, as I bumped into several people I knew.  I took one of those small carts, thinking it would keep my purchases down, but somehow that thing got full!  I saw Cheryl Geise, who I hadn't seen for quite a while, and then some people from church.  Apparently everyone likes sr. day, because it's pretty busy then!

Headed home, and made it for lunch, which was good, since I had picked up a sub for us to share.  Got a few things done, and then it was time to turn around and head west again!!  First service was at 4, with soup supper following between services.  Pastor Lindhorst preached, he is the new Director of Mission Advancement (taking over for Pastor Geiger as he goes into semi retirement).  We weren't out of church until 5:30!

I had hoped to get up to Graceville today, I haven't been there for a while.  But now the refrigerator repairman is coming to take a look at our fridge, so I'd better stick around.

"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.  He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life."  Titus 3:4-7

Have a great Wednesday!  Orrin, Linda and Teddy

Treadler Tuesday, February 17, 2015

For a minute there, I thought I might not get on tonight.  I had to reboot, not sure what is going on there, probably just the cold weather.  Looks like we'll be keeping that for a while yet.  We should have soaked up more of that sunshine while we had it!

I pulled out one of my Pfaff machines (finally) and made sure it was running okay.  One of my friends at Treadlers said last year already that she could use a new machine.  Nothing as dependable as an older model Pfaff, it was running fine!

I had Trinity Treadlers this afternoon.  I was going to take some pictures of the group and it just went out of my head.  I'll try to remember next time.  Lots of work got done.  I sewed some backing seams, and helped tie 2 quilts.  Showed Carrie (for Marjean) how to run the Pfaff and some of the features.  I hope she likes it as well as I've liked mine.  That is still my go to machine.  We always have a good time working.  And there is always a good meal to go with the day! The fruits of our labor culminate in a bazaar in the fall, the proceeds going mainly to Great Plains High School.

Pastor Enderle was telling me about Micah's mishap.  He fell on ice, and broke his ankle quite badly.  He's having the surgery on Thursday and will have to have some screws in.  It's splinted for now, and he's at home and will be laid up for at least 3 months.  Pray for quick and complete healing!

Well, time to call it a day, early bible study in the morning, and then back to Watertown for Ash Wednesday services, weather permitting, of course.

Good night!  Orrin, Linda and Teddy

Monday February 16, 2015

Kind of a quiet day today.  After some deliberation, we decided to go ahead and order the bed.  Hopefully it will mean peaceful sleep.  The largest issue now is going to be getting it in the room!  A shoehorn might be needed, lol.  Anyone interested in a 10 yr old sleep number bed?  The controllers need replacing, otherwise it's in good condition.

It seemed strange to have no mail today.  We didn't need to go to town, so didn't miss anything else that much.

Stay warm, everyone, and careful on the ice!

Linda, Orrin and Teddy

Super Cold Sunday February 15

Here we are again.  We overslept this morning, which hardly ever happens.  The usual scenario is to wake up very early ( 4 or 5 ) and then fall asleep again for an hour or so.  The hour lasted a little longer today!  It was too late to  make first service :( .  As we were getting up and going, we decided to make a trip to Mankato instead to deliver the Christmas packages to Jeremy, Laura, and Maria.  Wendy sent them with us in December, and we just never got there.  I think she was a little peeved with us.

So we gave Jeremy and Laura a call, and headed east today.  I read (out load) our bible study for today from the People's Bible on the way, so we should be up to date for next week!

We mutually decided to eat at Red Lobster, that's Maria and Orrin's favorite place.  :)  We stopped at the house first, and Maria was very happy with her packages, Grandma Wendy!  Then into town.

After lunch we went to the mall to check out beds at Sleep Number.  We got one 10 years ago (they still had us in the system!) and it doesn't seem to work that well anymore.  Anyway, I think we picked one out, but we're going to sleep on that decision tonight, LOL, and see how we feel in the morning.  It would be a king size, which would be a challenge.  We really don't have a king sized bedroom!  But we could make it work.  We'll keep you updated on that!

Then we headed home, really didn't have any other shopping to do.  Laura's parents were coming to see them after we left, so that all worked out well.  Just Drummy was the flavor of the day at the Marshall Culver's, and I still had a BOGO coupon sitting in my purse!

Tonight we watched my new soap opera, Downton Abbey.  Orrin isn't really thrilled with it, but I think it's growing on him.  Did I mention that I just started with this, and watched the first 4 seasons on Amazon prime in January?  It kind of coincided with my sore toe and sitting soaking it.  Worked out well, hehe.

Now it's time to call it a night.  I'm still a work in progress with this blog.  Someone said I should attach a gadget so they can subscribe to it, and I have no idea what that is.  Kathy, do you know?  Any suggestion, help, etc. is more than welcome.

Goodnight from the Canby Cole's house!

Saturday fun February 14, Valentines Day 2015

I am going to be very optimistic and start a blog.  Hopefully I can muddle through and figure out what I'm doing.  I thought it would be a good place to share some of my crafting attempts, our very busy (not) life and keep in touch with family and friends.

We had a fun weekend with Al, Lisa, Nate, and Donald.  They met us at P.K.'s last night for supper, Al's favorite place to eat.  Then came out to the farm for the night.  Played some Quirkle, had a good time with that.  It's disconcerting when the 2 little boys can see things we miss on the board!  It's a fun game, if you haven't tried it, give it a go!  We had pancakes for breakfast (my from scratch buttermilk) and played some games again.   It was waaay too cold to do much outside.  They headed home around 5, hope they didn't have any problems.

While they were here Al helped  me with posting pictures, etc. on a message board I'm on.  Think I've finally got it!  He also showed me where to find this.  We'll see how it goes.  :)

Just a few card fronts that I embossed from the new Anna Griffin folders, I really like them!  Now I have an assortment to grab from, to build a card front.  The next two pictures show one of the cards that I made for a Valentines swap.

Well, that's all for now, hopefully it will improve with time!
